Before we dive into anything, can we just take a collective moment to stop and acknowledge how difficult it is to create content?

There are so many things that get activated when we sit down to create.

Our perfectionism, our fear of being judged, our fear of getting overwhelmed and failing.

I just want to sit with you in that for a moment. I feel it too, and it is completely normal.

My business coach has me practice just sitting with those feelings, letting them sink in, letting them stay in my body (for me it’s in the chest).

What's almost magical is that when I don’t run away from those struggles, but let them sit in my body, and I keep breathing, they pass and there is a new level of clarity on the other side.

Right now, let’s practice this:

Whatever you’re feeling as you enter into this quiz creation process, all the anxieties and fears, let them in, and then close your eyes and take three deep breaths, acknowledging how big of a deal it is that you’re even here in the first place, taking a risk and putting yourself out there to build this quiz.

Thank yourself for having the courage to just show up here, that is the hardest part.

At the same time, I want to recognize the Picasso’s in the virtual room (Picasso is famous for waiting years and years to sit down and paint, and then when he was finally ready he created many masterpieces in a matter of months). It's not a bad thing if this is how you operate.

The downside of technology is that this course moves along at a set pace, because of limitations of the tools we use to deliver it, but that does not mean you have to feel obligated to go at the same pace. If the right timeline for you is 9 months to finish your quiz, take 9 months.

If it's 3 years, take three years, we have seen both of those scenarios play out and people end up with beautiful masterpieces.

There are also others who do it in a weekend, none of these is better or worse than the others, do what feels right and good for you.

Creating a quiz can feel energizing and fun, it's a fun process.

But only if you honor your working style and pace. This course is always available, as are the downloads.

That was a long way of saying, check in with yourself, set aside what you need.

For some people it will be an hour each morning for a few weeks, for others it will be one day 4 months from now.

Choose what works best for you and honor it.

Whenever I get overwhelmed creating content I come back to this practice, remind myself it is all a process, and perfect is a myth.

This course is also designed in a way where you will be learning along the way, it’s not all-or-nothing. Even if you don’t finish and launch your quiz you will learn more about your customers, how to market your business, and position your products and services to increase sales.

Rest easy knowing that however far you get, it will be an investment in your business that will pay out for the rest of your working life.

Okay, let’s talk about your quiz idea.

Here it is. Ask yourself this question - why do people come to work with me?

It is simple yet profound, and a great exercise to get clarity on the value of your business. Yet it’s not always clear.

That is okay, let’s unpack this and work backwards to uncover the biggest reason why people want to work with you so we can get your quiz idea sorted.

Step 1: Get Clear On Your Customers

  1. Think about your customers (if you don’t have customers yet, hi, welcome, you’re accepted here, every single one of us starts where you’re now. In your situation, think about the people you want to work with, and if you don’t know who you want to work with, think about yourself, did you know that most companies end up solving problems that people experience for themselves?).

  2. Set a timer for 15 minutes and write down a list of your customers’ goals, what are their dreams? What are they trying to do and accomplish in the world? Write down everything that comes to mind. The only rule is you cannot scrutinize the goals, just write them down as soon as you think of them, there are no wrong answers here. For fun, you can do this on sticky notes, and put them on the wall as you write them out.

  3. Once you have your customers goals written down, group them into categories based on which ones are similar.

  4. Whichever category has the most goals in it is your customers primary goal and biggest area of need.

  5. Prefer spreadsheets over post-its? Go deep into your research by filling out this spreadsheet that we created for you.

Here is a list of common goals to get you started, but feel free to be creative, this is a prompt not the answers.

  1. Finding purpose
  2. Making money
  3. Career success
  4. Getting fit
  5. Losing weight
  6. Being happier

Step 2: Discover and Define Your Unique Selling Point

  1. Now it’s your turn, do the same exercise, set a timer, write down all of the things you’re best at. What do your clients thank you for? If you don’t have clients, what do your friends ask you for help with?

This one can be hard for self-effacing people, which is a huge part of the population. No worries, enlist a friend or partner who sees the best in you but is also honest with you, and have them do the exercise for you.

  2. Group what you’re best at into categories and the one with the most in it is what you’re most helpful with.

Here is a list of ways people can be helpful.

  1. Identifying strengths
  2. Supporting
  3. Encouraging
  4. Challenging
  5. Listen well
  6. Teaching
  7. Pushing out of your comfort zone
  8. Showing appreciation
  9. Being vulnerable
  10. Patience
  11. Organizing
  12. Goal Setting
  13. Accountability
  14. Networking
  15. Brainstorming
  16. Asking Good Questions

Now let’s pause here because there is something profound in this.

Your Most Rewarding Career = Where what you’re most helpful with meets the world’s biggest need.

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it. - Maya Angelou”

To complete this part, match up part 1 and part 2.

This is your value statement

“I help (specific demographic) with (their goal) by using (my best strength) "

So it could be:

  • “I help people find purpose by encouraging them”
  • “I help people make money by becoming more organized”
  • “I help people achieve career success by asking good questions”

There are no wrong answers, there are no value statements that are too big or too small or too obscure. Yours is the right fit for you and that is what matters.

Step 3: Choose Your Quiz Title

Now that we know what your customers’ biggest goal is, and how you can help them achieve that goal, we are ready to write the title of your quiz.

The format is:

“What is Your (Goal) Type?”

So.

What is your purpose?

What is your money making type?

What is your career success type?

What is your fitness type?

(Some of these need addition or subtraction of words so they make grammatical sense)

Now, add an embellishment word or two, based on how you would say it.

What is your purpose in life?

What is your money-making mantra?

What is your unique fitness type?

Write out 10 versions of your quiz title, then send them to a few friends and ask them which one they like best, a fun way to get others involved. Or make a poll for your team at work and have everyone vote!

For Ecommerce:

In the world of products, quiz ideas are simpler and fall into two categories.

  1. Which (Product) is Best for You?
  2. What’s Your (Product Category) Type?

Here’s a list of common quiz ideas that perform really well to help.

For products

-Which Coffee is Best for You?

-Which Candle Scent Matches Your Personality?

-What Type of Tea Should You Drink?

-Which Engagement Ring Is Best for You?

-Which Essential Oil is Right for You?

For categories

- What is Your Skin Type?

- What is Your Beauty Style?

- What is Your Unique Fashion Style?

- What is Your Jewelry Style?

These are referred to as product recommender quizzes, and they convert like crazy.

Step 4: Choose Your Quiz Type

In Interact, you’ve got 3 different quiz types to choose from:

Vector-1 Personality: With each answer correlating to a different type of person, this is your most-likely-to-go-viral option!
Group Scored: Find out how much your audience knows about a certain topic. Score based quizzes are simple and effective.
Vector Assessment: With more nuance than a score based quiz, assessments help you build your authority by teaching your audience while they take your quiz.
Don't get too hung up on this step.

The important thing is that your quiz solves a problem for your ideal customer. In the last step, you came up with a quiz idea. Which quiz type does your idea work best with?

If you’re helping your quiz takers determine their “type” or “style” a personality quiz is probably best. If you’re helping them discover how much they know about quantitative easing, go with score-based.

And always remember: creating the best quiz for your business is an ever-evolving and iterative process. The important thing is to let the information you gather help you evolve your quiz and your business!

Start with what you already know about your ideal clients and customers, AND the transformation you provide for people, then let the information you gather help you iterate your quiz and biz over time.

Action step

Action Step

Identify your customers’ primary goal, turn it into a quiz title, and add it to the builder in the Interact quiz builder.

Pro Tip: Follow your energy. Remember, this is a big undertaking and it needs time and space to develop, rushing doesn’t help anything. At the same time, done is better than perfect, and the beauty of building in interact is that you can go back and change your title in exactly 12 seconds.

So if you wake up in the middle of the night two months from now and realize a brilliant title, you can log in, change it and go back to bed resting easy. Pressure’s off, this is an iterative process, and a quiz is designed to live and breath and change as you grow.
